[One Piece] The True Power of Marco the Phoenix, First Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates

#11 MARINE FORD

[One Piece] How Strong Is Marco the Phoenix Really?

Is Marco actually strong or just hard to kill?
Did the Wano arc change how we should judge him?
Or was he always underrated from the start?

Marco, Often Treated as a Punching Bag

1: Anonymous Pirate

He accidentally gets cuffed with Seastone.

1: Anonymous Pirate

Gets punched by Garp, and he’s not even a Devil Fruit user.

86: Anonymous Pirate

>>2
He’s a phoenix so getting punched doesn’t matter lol.

4: Anonymous Pirate

“Take that back…!”
(Marco’s usual line)

5: Anonymous Pirate

Gets completely crushed by Blackbeard.

7: Anonymous Pirate

His Haki is only annoying-level at best.

12: Anonymous Pirate

Katakuri is stronger.

16: Anonymous Pirate

This is the crew where Ace was just the 2nd division commander.

33: Anonymous Pirate

The blue flames look cool but that’s about it.

40: Anonymous Pirate

He’s a victim of power creep so give him a pass.

Looks Cool on Paper, Feels Weak in Practice

47: Anonymous Pirate

If you gave Kaido’s body the Phoenix fruit
that would be unbeatable.
But some skinny pineapple-head old guy eats it
and this is all we get.

59: Anonymous Pirate

If you’re immortal you stop training.
There’s a guy like that among the Iga ninjas too.

60: Anonymous Pirate

In every series a character named Marco is always strong.
Argument over.

145: Anonymous Pirate

Flying itself is rare so cut him some slack.

Post-Wano Re-Evaluation

146: Anonymous Pirate

Big Mom and Blackbeard’s commanders
can’t touch Aokiji.
Kaido’s commanders can’t touch Ryokugyu.
But Red-Hair and Whitebeard commanders
can actually fight Admirals.

147: Anonymous Pirate

Looking at this after Wano ends
the evaluation completely changes.

148: Anonymous Pirate

After Wano, Marco’s stock definitely went up.

👉 Marco isn’t a character you judge by 1v1 strength.

Marco isn’t written to dominate clean 1v1 fights.
That was never his role.

He’s a battlefield stabilizer.

  • Keeps allies alive with constant healing
  • Holds back multiple top tiers at once
  • Buys time against Admirals and Yonko-level threats

That kind of strength doesn’t look flashy
in power-scaling arguments
but it decides wars.

👉 Marco isn’t “weak”, he just plays a different role.

Marco is not weak.
He’s just judged by the wrong standard.

If you expect one-shot victories
you’ll be disappointed.
If you look at survivability, support, and stalling,
he’s elite.

After the Wano arc, it’s clear.
Marco the Phoenix
is one of the most reliable top-tier commanders in
One Piece.

He may not be the strongest guy in the room.
But he’s the guy you absolutely want
on your side in a real battle.
